RAP | Retired & Active Police
JANUARY 10, 2019
Following yesterday’s retired officers’ meeting, thirty men and women returned to the Nile for today’s meeting. (Did you notice the new sign next to the meeting room? Nice touch.)
At around Noon there was a stirring in the crowd anticipating the ringing of the club’s official bell. Cory Ness made it official, Dave DeMoss led the pledge of allegiance, President Nordlund called for order.
Great to see Dave Smoots (academy classmate) with us. Also hello to Chuck Ziegler, Verlin Judd, Hank Gruber, and Past President Greg Pote. And welcome to all.
For the beverage drawing, Bill asked Cory Ness to stir up the chips. The number is eight. Hank Gruber had his choice of drinks and he choose a beer.
In news from the pension office, sorry to report Don Coble #1481 passed away on December 30th at age 89. Also, Evan Thomas #2056 passed away on December 28th at age 84.
The treasurer reported last week the club brought in $4.00. The checking account balance is up to $1988.00.
Celebrating birthdays this week are: Riley Brice, Jim Campbell, and Jim Fisk. Riley turns 87, Jim will be 55 (who can remember that age), and Jim Fisk will be 81. Happy birthday men.
The president called for the Severance ten-dollar drawing. Bill asked Roy Skagen to pick the lucky chip. The number is five. A quick look at the log book showed Cory Ness on line five.
Once again Kathy Ness was first in line with a cute “Little Johnny” story the moral of which was don’t fool around with Johnny’s uncle when he has been drinking. Next was Paul Barden who had to recite from memory a good story about a golfer being struck by a ball that was hit by a female therapist who mistook the location of his injury.
When the laughter died down, Paul announced he had $140.00 to give away. Dave Smoots reached into the plastic jug and pulled out ticket stub #8494554 held by Verlin Judd. For the remaining dollars Verlin pulled out ticket #8494566 purchased by Dean Quall.
Congratulations to all our winners. See everybody next week…
