July 6, 2017

Once again on a great summertime day to be playing golf, twenty-four men and women signed their names to the log book to enjoy a weekly day of friendship and good conversation.  As 12:00 Noon approached Acting Assistant Vice President Cory Ness sounded the club’s bell followed by Assistant President Merv Henderson leading the group in reciting our country’s Pledge of Allegiance.

Merv welcomed Hank Gruber who we haven’t seen for about a month.  Also Dick Sherwood had his brother Dave with him.  Dave is up visiting from Yuma.  Welcome to all.

Merv called for the Witkowski beverage draw.  Cory had Jay Nicholson pick the winning chip.  Out came number eight this week belonging to Paul Barden.  To continue the cash give away Cory asked Dean Quall to pull out another winning number.  This time the number is five belonging to Jim Johnson.  Jim expressed a sigh of relief as it has been three weeks since he was last a winner.

No news from the pension office.  As mentioned last week Emett Kelsie had some heart problems.  He is still hospitalized.  A Get Well card was passed around for all to sign.

Our treasurer is still A.W.O.L.  But he did manage to get a message through advising Dave Green will have his 83rd birthday tomorrow.  Remember this year’s picnic is on the first Thursday of August.  John would like a body count to prevent last year’s over expenditure.

Cory announced this Sunday afternoon is Buzzy Katzer’s Hot Dog Day at the range.  Everybody is welcome to attend.

In the absence of the Prince of Mirth, Kathy Ness started the laughter with a story about a new Pastor in town asking for directions.  Paul followed with stories about female sleeping quarters on naval vessels and a mother worried about her daughter having sex.

For the raffle today Paul is following a tradition started last week by Joe Sanford.  The first drawing will be for sixty dollars followed by a fifty dollar giveaway.  Paul asked Past President Nordlund to mix up the ticket stubs.  Out came #9613938 held by Joe Sanford.  The remaining dollars went to Dick Sherwood who purchased ticket #4267.  Congratulations to all the winners.

See everybody next week and don’t forget the retired officers’ meeting next Wednesday where Cloyd Steiger will be the guest speaker.  Should be entertaining…
