October 25, 2018:  Prior Act eligible officers, the contract settlement for SPOG has hit a snag, so “excess benefits” calculations are on hold because the Pension Office has not received the Guild salary schedules for 2015 through 2019.

July 19, 2018:  Last month, it was mentioned that new Medicare cards with new ID numbers were being issued by the US Government. Since then, several members have called to report they have not received their new Medicare card. Don’t worry if you have not received it yet. The transition period lasts through all of 2019. So, just keep using the old card. But once you receive your new card, send a copy to the Pension Office.

June 20, 2018:  There are two new requirements for Notaries. Now, they must keep a sign-in signature logbook with each requestor’s thumb print. The result is the Pension Office will not be able to attend the monthly retired officers’ meeting to collect the yearly reporting forms to notarize.

May 24, 2018:  Sandi Mount #7164 will be retired this month after 15 years. Sandi came from the private sector. She worked for an engineering firm. All she will say about that is, engineers are boring. They are just about dates. Then she went to work for a school district which prepared her to work for the Department.

Please fill out all the required forms; i.e. Reporting Form, Health Care Form (widows do not need to fill this out,) Emergency Contact Form (both sides), and Medicare Part B Reimbursement Form (officers only.) All forms need to be received before your Medicare reimbursement is sent out.

Diane Stone #4293, the Department’s Elder Abuse Advocate is leaving on June 30, 2017 after five years in this position. Before that, she had retired in 2006 after 27 years and 10 months as a sworn SPD Officer and Detective. She has served almost 33 years on the Seattle Police Department.

May 18, 2017: No progress to report regarding the SPOG and SPMA contract negotiations.

There has been a lot of confusion this year with our LEOFF 1 Dually Entitled Members about the State DRS COLA and your “city check.”  In April of each year the State of Washington Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) initiates a Cost of Living (COLA) for LEOFF 1 members who are dually entitled.  Please know this does not always mean that you will receive a “raise.”
