Pension Office News | August 2017

There are no retirements to report this month.

  • The RAP Picnic was held on August 3rd, the hottest day of the month. Yet, many hardy retirees showed up in their shorts (ugh!) and straw sun hats. Bocce ball was to start at 11:00 a.m., but the teams were too tired, so after two-hour naps, the six teams took the field. After 30 minutes of grueling competition, it was agreed to end the finale in a three-way tie for first place. The other three teams got a participation award (abuse.)

  • Attention SNOWBIRDS – get your winter address into the Pension Office. Call Stephanie at 206-386-1286, option 2, or email policepension@seattle.gov.

  • If a medical provider wants you to pay up front, have them call UMR to verify your benefits. The UMR phone number is on the back of your medical card for your provider. Also, your medical coverage from the Board does not include any doctor’s concierge or administrative fees. We only cover medically necessary expenses.

  • Don’t forget that the Retired Officers Banquet is at the Range Pavilion on Wednesday, September 13, 2017.

True Benefits Hacked

Welcome to the Digital Age

August 17, 2017:  The Pension Office has been notified that our brokerage firm, True Benefits, which helps us administrate our pension plan, has experienced a potential hack of its data.  They are taking remedial action including notifying you by mail and offering an application for two years of free credit monitoring.

You will receive a letter in the mail from True Benefits outlining the steps taken to access the potential data intrusion and offering the free credit monitoring. We’ll keep you informed as we learn more but at this time do not call the Pension Office regarding this as we have asked True Benefits to make direct contact with you.
