Minutes of Monthly Meeting
July 12, 2017

President Taylor called the meeting to order at 1145 hours in the Red Room of the Nile Country Club July 12, 2017. Dan Oliver led the Pledge of Allegiance and Taylor asked all to remain standing for a moment of silence for Ernie Randall #1224 passing Monday the 10th.

Roll call of officers showed Taylor, Dick Rovig, Nick Bulpin, John Nordlund, Terri MacMillan, Jeff Caldwell, Dan Oliver, Dan Melton present with John Sullivan and Joe Bouffiou excused.

Taylor directed attention to the minutes of the June meeting and asked for any corrections, deletions or additions. Dick Sherwood moved the minutes be accepted as written, seconded by Ivan Feilberg and passed. Nick Bulpin gave the financial report and stated it would be submitted for the audit now in progress being conducted by Al Nelson and John Nordlund.

Taylor gave a brief legislative report indicating LEOFF pension funds will be left intact for now but cautioned the next legislative session could present pension issues once again.

There will be a Memorial at the Nile for Tommy Knight who passed away January 2nd this year.  The times are from 3 to 5:00PM

There will be a Memorial for Ernie Randall following RAP August 10th at the Nile. Ernie made plans for a hosted cocktail bar, music and snacks to celebrate his life with friends and family.

President Taylor introduced Cloyd Steiger, retired SPD Homicide detective. Cloyd spent 36 years with SPD and is now Chief Criminal Investigator at the Washington Attorney General’s Office Homicide Investigation Tracking System (HITS). Cloyd presented a PowerPoint slide show/video of cases he had worked on containing images that were somewhat graphic. Cloyd interspersed humor with his descriptions of various incidents and was very entertaining as well as interesting. He responded to questions and was given great applause and thanks.

Guest speaker next month will be Captain Gregg Caylor, a 27- year veteran of SPD. He worked Patrol, Detectives, Human Resources, Force Review and currently commands OPA.

Joe Sanford conducted the door prize drawing with the lucky winners being John Nordlund and Doris Beck.

There being no further business 43 persons enjoyed a great lunch.
